To be honest, I never really considered the fitness aspect of golf, but it is extremely important. Last year at the Masters hospitality tent, the recurring theme was that the golfer in the best shape will make the late round shots consistently. I think Tiger Woods was a good example of this. He was in great shape until his knee gave out, and then struggled until he regained that strength. But what parts of our body should we concentrate on first. General cardio fitness, muscle building, stretching, or all of the above? My daughter is a pretty good High School golfer and maybe a conditioning approach will put her to a new level.

First start with flexibility, muscle and joint mobility. Use the foam roller routine that I wrote about in my blog. If you can't complete your backswing and get a big shoulder turn because of physical limitations, you are losing serious distance. Secondly is core strength as well as golf specific rotational strength. Use my videos to start your program. If you have any specific questions along the way, let me know and I will be happy to help. A golf fitness training program is essential for every golfer at any age.

To your success,

Jake Stapleton replied to Dan Carson's discussion Exercise Question?
"I coach golf and what formula that seems to work well for my players is off season = more weight less reps...during season = less weight and higher reps.  Include a lot of stretches regardless of in or out of season."
