My Nutrition and Workout Routine
Nutrition
I've always wanted to eat better, but living on my own and working long days has made that difficult. For the past 3 years my typical day of eating has looked something like this:
6am - Bowl of cereal (on good days Kashi, or normal days other)
7:30am- Coffee (milk and sugar) and Bagel w/cream cheese
9am- Banana
10-12pm- Teddy Grahams
1:30- Tuna sandwich
4pm- Starbucks boost (something with caramel:))
8pm- Burrito, Indian Food, Sushi, something takeout
10pm- Big bowl of ice cream
Since December my nutrition looks something like this:
5:15am- 8 eggwhites with onions, peppers, mushrooms and tomatoes.
6:30am- Coffee (milk and sugar), banana
7:45am- Apple
9:00am- Orange bell pepper
10:30am- Almonds
12pm- Two cans of tuna, straight out of the can
1:30pm- Banana
3pm- Almonds
5pm- Protein bar
8:30pm: My protein shake: ice, banana, frozen strawberries, scoop whey protein, powder content of 3 supreme greens, powder content 2 antioxidants, daily vitamin, aloe gel, orange juice. Blend to perfection. Drink with one fish oil supplement (don't put in shake. Tastes nasty).
9pm- Several nights a week: chicken, sushi, fish, (and some vegetable). Other nights whatever looks best on the menu:)
Analysis: I live in NYC, and one passion I don't have an interest in giving up is the restaurant scene. My dinner schedule is relatively unchanged. The rest of my nutrition, however, has vastly improved. Breakfast has been the best change. I cut out breads and cream cheeses in favor of the purest form of protein available. I follow this up with constant mini meals, and the result is that I feel great throughout the day. I've always worked out hard, but add to that my newest nutrition routine and I've dropped from 175 pounds to 165 pounds in just a month. I had my body fat tested last week as well and came in at 7.7%, a great figure according to the trainer. Another consequence is that I feel a greater intensity when I'm working out and my energy level is the best it has ever been. I'm finding that the more I stick to this routine the easier it becomes. In fact, I'm getting to the point where I really love eating well and cannot imagine going back to old habits. In my opinion, the first step is the most important:)
Workout
For the past 3 years my workout routine has evolved around my understanding of the golf swing. I work hard to create rotational power, stamina, and lean muscle. During a typical week I spin 3 to 4 times and workout 4 to 5 times.
